Rieber & Søn Poland

Rieber & Søn Poland owns among others the Delecta brand and has been producing and selling foods in the Polish market since 1816.

Delecta has leading positions in the area of cakes, cake mixes, baking ingredients and desserts.

General market growth in the sweet categories in Poland is at a good level, and Delecta’s market position is developing well. However, the Polish currency has weakened against the Euro, which has increased the cost of raw material imports and thus weakened profitability.

In December 2008 Rieber & Søn signed an agreement to acquire the Polish brand Gellwe, but the transaction was not approved by the Polish competition authorities. Rieber & Søn decided not to appeal the decision, but will instead intensify its efforts to further strengthen the Delecta brand, while at the same time profitability will be increased through internal initiatives taken to achieve operational improvements.

The Polish business reported sales growth in 2009, but operating profits were weakened due to one-off costs. Underlying profitability was positive.
