Economic support/sponsoring
Rieber & Søn has a long tradition of supporting local activities, giving priority to charitable initiatives, sport and culture. In 2010 all of our business units again gave their support to local events, activities and initiatives, both financially and by providing products.
On 1 January 2011 Rieber & Søn signed a three-year partnership agreement with Unicef. This partnership relates to a nutritional and dietary programme through which we are supporting a specific project in Vietnam to provide nutritious soup and dietary advice. The aim is to reduce the number of undernourished children and prevent new cases from arising. As part of the agreement, we are producing a nutritious soup which will be launched in the Norwegian market in the autumn of 2011. Part of the income will be allocated to the project in Vietnam.
Each year Rieber & Søn has made a large contribution to charitable causes in countries where we operate. In 2010 the funds went to three different projects. In Bysice (Czech Republic) we supported a school project to serve food to children between 3 and 14 years of age. In Electrostal in Russia we supported a school for 140 deaf children, providing funds for both refurbishment and kitchen equipment. In Wloclawek in Poland we supported a nursery for children with impaired sight and hearing, providing funds to purchase special equipment to help the children to develop their senses.
In 2010 the Group gave NOK 100 000 to the Red Cross, dedicated to work aimed at helping people who were afflicted by the earthquake in Haiti.
